Gilbert Celebrates Higley & Williams Field Road Improvements
Drivers are getting around Gilbert with more ease now that the expansion project is complete at the intersection of Higley and Williams Field Roads. Mayor John Lewis cut the ribbon in celebration of the project Thursday.
The $19.1 million project includes three thru lanes, capacity for dual left turns, right turn decal lanes, railroad crossing improvements, drainage, sidewalk and streetlights. It was designed to accommodate current and future demands as Gilbert continues to expand in population.
At the ceremony, town leaders recognized business owners who had made temporary adjustments in cooperation with the construction. Rob Padilla with Hunter Contracting Company expressed his gratitude to the community as well.
“We also understand that with change it sometimes requires sacrifice,” said Padilla, “We’d like to thank all of the local businesses and the traveling public for their constant vigilance as we worked through the construction on this job.”
Another intersection expansion is in Gilbert’s near future. Construction is expected to begin for the widening of Higley and Warner in late June 2014.
