Orbital Sciences Corporation Educates Gilbert Students
Business and educational partnerships in Gilbert are teaming up in an effort to promote science, technology, engineering and math (STEM.) Mesquite High School students who are participating in Project Lead the Way had the opportunity to tour the Orbital Sciences Corporation satellite manufacturing facility in Gilbert, getting a first-hand look at how satellites are manufactured and tested.
“It piques their interest so they understand what engineering is about at the foundation, at the high school level, that they can carry on sort of seamlessly right into a college career,” said Orbital Science’s Senior Director of Engineering Rick Kettner. “The town’s actually been very involved in terms of advocacy, in terms of the relationship between us and Mesquite and the public school system.”
The Town of Gilbert recently hosted a Mayor’s Ambassador Forum to help bring prominent businesses and educators together to get Gilbert college and career ready. Economic Development Marketing and Communications Administrator, Amanda Elliott, says the partnerships help to keep an educated workforce in Gilbert to ensure the success of current and future businesses.
“Projects like the one that’s happening today with Project Lead the Way are a perfect example of how businesses, education and leadership in the town are all coming together to help excite students about STEM,” she said.
The Town of Gilbert continues to facilitate and encourage partnerships between businesses and students in the community.
