Town of Gilbert Starts Social Media Taskforce
The Town of Gilbert hosted its first Social Media Advisory and Research Taskforce (SMART) meeting on Wednesday, November 14, 2012. As part of the Town’s Digital Road Map, the Office of Communications created the SMART team to bring together social media leaders from the Town and local businesses to discuss current social media trends. The SMART team meets quarterly and participants include ASU Polytechnic, Chandler-Gilbert Community College, Dignity Health, Deep Space Marketing, Gilbert Chamber of Commerce, Gilbert Farmers Market, Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport, and the Town’s Fire, Police, and Parks and Recreation Departments.
The focus of the first meeting was on SMART’s objective of bringing local social media leaders together to share social media strategies in order to assist the Town with its emerging social media presence. Facebook was also a topic of discussion, with an emphasis on how to engage followers and fully utilize space given to company pages.
“I am thrilled with how the first meeting went,” said Dana Berchman, the Town’s Chief Digital Officer. “The participants brought several great strategies to the table that will not only help the Town, but also the other businesses involved. Gilbert is going digital and it is a win-win for all involved.”
